Termites are more than just "bugs"—they are highly organized wood-eaters that can threaten your home’s foundation. Here is what you need to know:
The Power of the Colony: A colony consists of Workers (the largest group that does the damage), Soldiers (the protectors), and Reproductives (the swarmers who start new nests).
Their Diet: Termites feed on cellulose. This means they don't just eat your wooden beams; they also target paper, cardboard, and even drywall.
The Main Warning Sign: Look out for "Swarming." When a colony gets too big, winged termites fly out to find a new home. If you find piles of discarded, translucent wings on your floors or windowsills, a nest is likely nearby.
Can You Have Multiple Colonies? Yes. Different colonies can live near each other. While they don’t mix, they can all feed on your house at the same time.
Pro Tip: Termite colonies can live for decades if left alone. If you see signs of a swarm, call a professional immediately.
